An answer for those who ask about overcoming homosexuality

Man, thank you for sharing the truth with me about your questions about the homosexual lifestyle. I'm proud of you for that. I don't judge you. Instead I accept you just the way you are. I hope I can help you.

In the Bible, you'll find a story about the church of Corinth. The books of 1 & 2 Corinthians were written to them by the Apostle Paul. He would have welcomed you into the church. Check out what he wrote:

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."

This is what John the Apostle wrote in Revelation 21:7-8 "All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.  But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars-their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." Revelation 21:7-9 (New Living Translation)"

My point in sharing that scripture is for this part ... "that is what some of you were." In other words, God changed their lives, then they were accepted into the church.

Notice this list of "sinners" ... Not just homosexuals, but heterosexual offenders, liars, greedy people, alcoholics, and modern day creative corporate accountants.

If you had to be perfect to come to God and come into the church, NO ONE would be there. We ALL need to be washed, cleansed, forgiven, sanctified, and justified by Jesus. This is something done FOR us by the Spirit of God,(WHEN WE ACKNOWLEDGE OUR HELPLESSNESS).

Let me be up front with you. The scriptures don't say that homosexual sex is the unforgiveable sin, but they are clear that homosexual sex is wrong. It's not what God intended.

I don't know why you struggle with homosexuality, YOU ARE NOT ALONE, MANY PEOPLE DO.  FOR ONE THING, YOUR CONCIENCE IS MAKING YOU AWARE THAT SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT.   All the evidence in the medical and scientific community points away from a simple, single cause as far as I can tell. But from talking with many gay people I've come to believe that most would not choose same-sex attraction if they could choose.

GOD DOES NOT CONDEMN YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE HOMEOSEXUAL BUT BECAUSE YOU WERE CONDEMNED THE DAY YOU WERE BORN; BECAUSE YOU WERE BORN IN SIN AND SHAPPED IN INIQUITY. (ROMANS 3:23) YOU DID NOT CHOOSE TO BE BORN IN THAT STATE. THAT WAS DETERMINED BY THE SIN OF DISOBEDIENCE OF YOUR FORE-FATHER ADAM.

I AM IN THE SAME CONDITION, BUT, FOR THE GRACE OF GOD.  BECAUSE WE WERE BORN SINNERS, WE HAVE A SINFUL NATURE, WE SIN NOT BY CHOICE, BUT BECAUSE WE ARE INHERANTLY SINFUL AND BEHAVE IN DISOBEDIENCE.  Gal 5:19-21 "The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."

FOR THIS REASON WE NEED TO REPENT OF OUR SIN.  THE NORMAL CONSEQUENCE FOR CONTINUING IN SIN IS ETERNAL JUDGEMENT.

So here is the question, can you come to Christ just as you are ... as a struggler?

The answer is YES!!! (IF YOU DO, THE BIBLE SAYS, HE WILL NOT REFUSE YOU, BUT WILL RECEIVE YOU, FORGIVE YOU AND CLEANSE YOU FROM ALL, YES, ALL YOUR SINS.) HE DOES NOT SEE US ANYMORE IN OUR SIN, BUT SEES US JUSTIFIED, JUST AS IF WE HAD NEVER SINNED, RIGHTEOUS AND HOLY.)

I don't believe "homosexual" is who you are in God's eyes. He created you for a purpose, and that's more than the sum total of your sexual attraction. I think our culture and the church makes this the big deal, but God loves you as a person and he will help you as you come to him, just as you are.  ROMANS 5:1-3 SAYS, "Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory.  We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance."

The scripture is clear ... Being made right with God is a gift of God that no one can earn, so no one can boast about it. (Read Eph. 2:8-9). I don't see anyone excluded who wants it. God is offering you a gift of forgiveness and freedom. Receive it in gratitude.

I know you are scared and afraid to trust. I do not condemn you. I love you, just for having the courage to tell the truth. That alone tells me God is at work in your life.

Whatever God wants to do in your life, I know he will not leave you unfulfilled and empty. It may be difficult to follow him, even painful, but He will leave you more fulfilled than before in the long run. That I know is God's promise.

So here's what I want to ask you. Can you pursue a relationship with Christ, and keep learning about how much he loves you and wants the best for you, and keep seeking to trust Him with everything? Willingness is all that He needs.

So if you can start trusting, start praying for His will to be done in your life. Here is a prayer of surrender for today:

Jesus, I trust that you are at work in my life. I trust that you will lead me wherever you want me to be. I trust you to take care of me. I trust you to fulfill me. Open my eyes today to see what you see. Give me the ears to hear what your Spirit is saying. Give me the courage to obey instantly. I want to walk into your light and confess my need of you and others. Without you and your Spirit working through others, I will stay the same, so give me the courage to follow you. Let your will be done in my life today. I trust that you are in control of my life and you will take care of everything. Amen
