Commentary by Don Scheske - For quiet meditation & prayer

Why Was I Attacked?

Satan hates God, but cannot attack him directly so he attacks that which God loves more than anything else... people. Satan especially tries attacking God's people because they are his children and the apple of his eye.  -- NLT

1 Peter 5:8 "Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour."

*Satan is a counterfeit. He is AS a roaring Lion, but Jesus IS THE LION of the tribe of Judah (Judah means praise) -- NLT

1 Peter 5:9 "Take a firm stand against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are."

*God is no respecter of persons. Others have overcome the enemy when attacked and you can too

Satan's Attack is a Temporary Inconvenience! - His attacks won't succeed -- NKJ

2 Corinthians 4:18 "While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal."  -- Weymouth's New Testament

1 Peter 5:10 "And God, the giver of all grace, who has called you to share His eternal glory, through Christ, after you have suffered for a short time, will Himself make you perfect, firm, and strong."

GOD'S WILL IS TO HEAL: - Confidence and Faith in God begins when we know his will. If we believe God wants us sick - we can't have faith to trust God for our healing. This question must be settled before engaging the enemy. Is it Gods will that his people should be healed and healthy? Yes!  --KJV

Jeremiah 32:27 "Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?"  -- KJV

Numbers 23:19 "God is not a man, that he should lie. He is not a human, that he should change his mind.

Has he ever spoken and failed to act?"

A.  Has he ever promised and not carried it through?

Psalms 103:1-5 "Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!  Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's." - NIV

Philippians 2:13 "For it is God who works in you to (his) will and to act according to his good purpose."

God's will is complete healing from ALL disease!

Deuteronomy 7:15 "And the Lord will take away from you all sickness..."

All of God's promises are fulfilled...

Joshua 21:45 "Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken (promised) to the house of Israel. All came to pass."

Psalms 91:16 "With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation."

*If we believe it's God's will for us to be sick or to die before our time, we shouldn't take medicine and just let God's will be done. It just doesn't make sense does it?

Contrast Jesus with Satan (the thief)

John 10:10 "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."

Is Jesus willing? Yes, he never turned down one request for healing...

Matthew 8:2-3 "And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.''  Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed.'' And immediately his leprosy was cleansed."

Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."

Who qualifies for healing? - Worshippers, believers, obedience and faith

John 9:31 "Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him."

B.  Promises and Instructions in Confidence...

1 John 3:21-22 "Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.  And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight."

C.  Praying God's will...

1 John 5:14-15 "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him."

Scriptural methods of prayer for sickness and disease...

James 5:14-15 "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven."

D.  Pray in an attitude of "faith in God" - Our faith is not in faith, our faith is in God

Mark 5:34 "And He (Jesus) said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.''

Matthew 9:29 "Then he (Jesus) touched their eyes and said, "Because of your faith, it will happen."

Mark 11:22-23 "So Jesus answered and said to them, "Have faith in God. "For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will come to pass, he will have whatever he says."

*One translation says have the "God kind of faith" - Meaning God KNOWS his spoken words WILL be performed regardless of circumstances -and God's word spoken through our mouth is as powerful as God's word spoken by his mouth!

**The doubts we must guard against are doubts, which can take root in ones heart (Spirit) regarding God's will to heal you or his ability to heal you or his desire to heal you. Not the doubtful or fearful thoughts, which cross our mind from time to time sent by the devil to torment believers.

Prayer working through believers...

Mark 16:17-18 "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.''

E.  Our prayers carry God's authority...

Matthew 18:18-19 "Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind (stop) on earth will be bound (stopped) in heaven, and whatever you loose (permit) on earth will be loosed (permitted) in heaven. "Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven." - KJV

F.  Prayers of faith believe first, and then receive...

Mark 11:24 "What things so ever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." - New Jerusalem with Apocrypha

Mark 11:24 "I tell you, therefore, everything you ask and pray for, believe that you have it already, and it will be yours."

*God consistently works by this faith principle. ie: Jesus often asked people if they believed before he performed miracles and he always commended people who believed before they saw the evidence  -- NKJ

Matthew 9:28 "And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?'' They said to Him, "Yes, Lord.'' - KJV

Mark 9:23-24 "Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief." - KJV

Luke 8:49-50, 54-55 "While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway:" - KJV

John 4:49-51 "The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth."

G.  Why Healing Prayers Work...  -- NIV

Psalms 107:20 "He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave."

Isaiah 53:5 "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed."

Galatians 3:13-14 "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree''), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

Romans 8:11 "But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you."

Proverbs 4:20-21 "My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart;"  - New Living Translation

Proverbs 4:20-23 "Pay attention, my child, to what I say. Listen carefully. Don't lose sight of my words. Let them penetrate deep within your heart, For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. For they (God's words) bring life and radiant health to anyone who discovers their meaning. Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do."

Premises and Promises - Every blessing carries a responsibility - every promise is conditional

H.  God Gives Choice And Free Will...

Deuteronomy 30:19 "I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;"

Exodus 23:25 "So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you."

Malachi 3:10-11 "Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now in this,'' says the Lord of hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,"

I.  Tenacity and Trust in God - God loves a fighter who has confidence in Him

Joel 3:10 "Beat your plowshares into swords: and your pruning hooks into spears: Let the weak say, "I am strong."

Psalms 118:17 "I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the Lord."

Hebrews 4:12-16 "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart... Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

J.  Tenacious Faith... -- King James

Hebrews 10:23 "Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised;"

L. The Good Fight Of Faith... It's good because we win!

2 Corinthians 10:4 "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;"

Ephesians 6:10-13 "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

Revelation 12:11 "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death."

God will bring the conspiracy against you to an end...

Nahum 1:9 "What do you conspire against the Lord? He will make an utter end of it. Affliction will not rise up a second time."

Sow Seeds Into Others... Sow seeds of prayer, love, forgiveness, finances, healing, soul winning etc.  What you sow you WILL reap

Luke 6:38 "Give and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over shall men give into your bosom, for with what measure you meet it shall be measured to you again."

James 5:16 "Pray for one another that ye may be healed, The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Prayers from others help you!"  -- Living Bible

2 Corinthians 1:9-11 "We felt we were doomed to die and saw how powerless we were to help ourselves; but that was good, for then we put everything into the hands of God, who alone could save us, for he can even raise the dead. And he did help us, and saved us from a terrible death; yes, and we expect him to do it again and again. But you must help us too, by praying for us. For much thanks and praise will go to God from you who see his wonderful answers to your prayers for our safety!"

Hebrews 10:23 "Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, for He who promised is faithful."
