repentance(n = noun.feeling) penance, penitence - remorse for your past conduct; is a kind of compunction, remorse, self-reproach.

Proverbs 28:13 "Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper,
but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy."

Mat 3:2 "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."

Psa 2:11 "Serve the Lord in fear! Repent in terror!"

Job 42:6 "Therefore I despise myself,  and I repent in dust and ashes!"
