You asked me three important questions:
Who made the Bible?
Why does it contradict itself?
Why does life have to be cruel?
First the Bible:
Here is a answer to Who made the Bible.
The Bible is first a record of God creating a people for Himself, then telling them to share this with the world.
Hebrews 1:1-3 "God, having spoken in former times in fragmentary and varied fashion to our forefathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by a Son whom he appointed to be the heir of everything and through whom he also made the universe. He is the reflection of God's glory and the exact likeness of his being, and he holds everything together by his powerful word".
Jesus came and taught the truth. His disciples wrote down what Jesus said. He then died to pay for our sins, and came alive again from the dead, and is alive today, in heaven, but will come back to earth one day to put things right in the world.
1Thessalonians 4:16-18 "With a shout of command, with the archangel's call, and with the sound of God's trumpet, the Lord himself will come down from heaven, and the dead who belong to the Messiah will rise first. "Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. So then, encourage one another with these words."
Contradictions?
Someone has been telling you lies!
The Bible does not contradict itself. People who do not read the Bible regularly, imagine all kinds of contradictions.
Next time, ask them to show you the contradiction! I have done so many times, and they mumble, that there are some, but cannot show them to you.
I have read the Bible through 56 times, once each year, and the more I read, the more I see a coherant wonderful story of God's love for mankind.
Cruel World?
Yes, we do live in a very cruel world. A quick read of the first five chapters of Genesis explains why.
Chapter One, ends with God saying that all that He made was very good.
Chapter Two, tells how he made man and woman and gave them everything they could want. He also gave them a free will, to choose. God did not force them to obey Him, he gave them a choice.
Chapter Three, tells us there was an evil one that came and questioned God's integrity! He told them God was not loving and just. They did not wait to ask God about this, but believed the devil and disobeyed God.
The Loving God knew that they might continue to live forever, and multiply the evil in the world, so:
"Later, the LORD God said, "Look! The man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, so he won't reach out, also take from the tree of life, eat, and then live forever—" Genesis 3:22.
Chapter Four, shows the outcome of disobeying God. It records the first jealosy, murder, and multiple wives to one man.
Chapter Five, shows God planning a new line from Adam and Eve, that would bring Salvation to all mankind through the line of Seth, to Noah, and then on to Jesus.
Genesis 5:3 After Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son just like him, that is, according to his own likeness, and named him Seth.
Life was cruel after Adam and Eve sinned, and continues that way. Jesus said there would be wars and rumours of wars.
Matthew 24:6 "You are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars. See to it that you are not alarmed. These things must take place, but the end hasn't come yet"
Rev 22:3-5 "There will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and the lamb will be in the city. His servants will worship him and see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night, and they will not need any light from lamps or the sun because the Lord God will shine on them."
