Jesus, Father and Son at the same time?

How can Jesus be God, and at the same time be the Son of God?”

Question: How can Jesus be God, and at the same time be Son of God?”

You ask an interesting question. Let us look at these verses in the Gospel of Matthew, the first book of the New Testament in the Bible.

Matthew 1:23-25 "See, a virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel," which means, "God with us." When Joseph got up from his sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary as his wife. He did not have marital relations with her until she had given birth to a son; and he named him Jesus.

Jesus answered that question by saying that He is in the Father and the Father is in Him.  He also declared in John 14:6-7: "Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.’"

By honoring Jesus Christ, you can be sure that you are honoring His Father as well. This is similar to a man receiving praise for his son and considering it as praise to himself.  When you honor the son, you have honored the Father. Jesus said further that we are to pray to the Father, and use Jesus name when asking for something from God the Father.

Luke 11:2 "And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven,"

The writer of Hebrews says that Jesus will make intercession for us, to the Father.

Hebrews 7:25 "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."

Finally we find that Paul writes:1Corinthians 15:28  "And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all."

Ultimately Jesus is the son of the Father, one God in being, yet still the son of the Father. This is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Finally in the writings of Paul, the apostle, we see that Jesus hands back all things to his 'Father'.

1Corinthians 15:24-28 "Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him that God may be all in all."
